A WEEKEND WITH KATELYN

Katelyn & Laura

Before time slips away from me I wanted to take a moment to share a little of my weekend with Katelyn.  We have been friends for 6+ years, after meeting in an online photography forum.  We began chatting and the rest is history.  We both have a deep love for photography and have worked together on many shoots, including several for the Bohemian Collective.  It had been a while since we had worked together in this way, so I had her come to my house to shoot one of the editorials for the next magazine issue.  This was the first time we had ever spent time together just the two of us.  Usually her two precious kiddos are with her and sometimes her hubby.  You never know how the dynamics are going to go when you are so used to being with someone in a certain context, and it was so nice!

It's so wonderful having a friend you can be completely yourself with, have real conversations with and never feel embarrassed or ashamed, and even be able to have some rough patches of emotions with, and be able to work through them and still remain close.  Weve both been through alot and have gone through many personal changes since we met.  I think we have both taught each other a bit about forgiveness, working through fears or jealousy, being vulnerable, and being there, just simply being there.  We go wayyyyyy beyond the surface with our relationship, and that I am grateful for.

And we rocked a really fun photoshoot together for the mag that I can't wait to share!  We skinny dipped.  We ate breakfast together on my back porch.  She watched me sit on the couch with a migraine ( so much fun, right? ).... It was so quick, but so nice!

My friend Katelyn and her two adorable kiddos came to visit us this past week.  They arrived late Saturday night and left Wednesday morning.  We packed so much in those 3+ days, but at the same it actually felt like the most laid back, relaxed, enjoyable stay they have ever had here.  Let the photos speak for themselves.  We had a little get together with some friends down by our river as a late birthday party for me since life was so crazy on my actual birthday this year.  Even though only half of my peeps actually came, it was perfect and I had the best time.

Hightlights of their time here: hearing about how excited Penelope was to come to 'warwah's' house, watching the girls fall in love with Banjo, lots of river time, hanging out in my teepee in the backyard, visiting James at HEB, shopping at Of A Muse, making jewelry with the girls, dancing around the house, Katelyn doing henna on my hand while getting drunk on Mai Tai's late at night, doing two photoshoots for Katelyn, feeding the deer with the girls, having breakfast picnics in the yard, early morning time alone with the girls, letting the girls play dress up with my jewelry, listening to Penelope play the guitar, taking silly videos, late night girl talk, finding tons of silly photos on my phone that the girls took like the two above with their crazy faces, and most of all just enjoying giggles and smiles from the kiddos.  Priceless.

Thank you Katelyn for the great 'weekend'.  It was a joy. Love you.

THRIFTING ADVENTURE

Katelyn and her family got to my house late on thursday evening, so Friday was our first real day together.  It did not take long for the girls to find themselves in my bedroom playing dress up and bedazzling themselves.  Leena remembered I had these jewels from the last time they came when we used them in a photoshoot for the bohemian collective.  She loves them.  And now, Penelope does too.

We spent a good part of the day a few towns over thrifting.  On the way there we had to pee, so we stopped in our favorite coffee shop in Ingram, Spirit Wind Java.  We got smoothies and lounged on their couches for a bit, taking photos, instagramming, breastfeeding and just being.  Then we went to a few of my favorite regular spots to find treasures.  I found a few stellar things.  A huge, double planter macrame hanger, I mean huge.  Its so rad.  A new pillow for the couch.  A crochet blanket.  A wooden moon shaped jewelry hanger.  A book.  And a wooden bowl.  All for around a whopping $10, if that.  How I love thrifting.

Then we came home and went swimming in the river, which was my favorite part of the whole trip.  It was so much fun.  Lots and LOTS of photos from that coming soon.
