THREADS // T-SHIRT DRESS PART 1

via rootsandfeathers.com

Today's 'threads' post is part 1 of a 3 part series on styling t-shirt dresses.  I got 3 dresses from Tobi and had fun with styling them in different ways.  Two are the same dress, just in different colors and one is a different style.  First up, this beautiful olive colored hi-lo dress with a low cut front.  At first I was a little worried on how I would layer this since the front is so low (meant for all those rad strappy front bras that just don't work with a pregnant body).  I layered this one with two different bras that have pretty enough appeal to almost look like under tanks.  I absolutely love the way the 3 different colors and textures came together.  There is something about layering that takes an outfit to a whole new level.  The pink bra is from Free People and the orange lacey one is from Of a Muse.  I layered this look with leggings, even though they are in a completely different color scheme, in my mind it worked.  I love that this style dress is one you can utilize in your closet through all seasons really.  If it was too hot outside you can just ditch the leggings and boots and add sandals.  But speaking of boots, I love love these boots.  I had them in brown for a few years and when I found these on Modcloth's crazy sale a while back in this beautiful wine color I had to grab them. Not sure if they still have them, but if not, they are made by Sbicca.

This dress is one of those pieces that has been so wonderful during pregnancy but is going to be just as great after I have the babe too...

The rest of my accessories are all handmade by rad people!!!  This insane squash blossom was featured in my last Bohemian Collective Magazine and was made by Aurora Shadow.  The sliced leather cuff is from Flourish Leather (I have a mini one just like it for Ava).  The copper cuff is by Silk Bone Jewels.  The turquoise ring is by Mountainside Designs.

THREADS // CACTUS + PAISLIES

via rootsandfeathers.com

This was shot about two weeks ago when I was 29 weeks pregnant.  Right around the time I started feeling very, very... ripe.  It was wild to see how much I blossomed between my 23rd & 27th midwife appointments.  Little Ava just decided to start growing like crazy, also making me grow like crazy.  Within those weeks I could also feel her movements and kicks go from very specific areas of my belly to all over the place!  Rapid changes are happening.  I just keep reminding myself that all this extra weight will turn into beautiful breast milk for my little babe soon.  In just a short 6 weeks I will be in the clear to have a home birth!  6 weeks... that is so so soon!  The way the weeks have just been flying by.  It will be a release once we hit that mark though, just to know we will have that option that we so desire.

I love this dress from Others Follow!!!  Another piece that will be great throughout my pregnancy and long long after.  I've been a paisley lover for as long as I can remember.  I really love the handkerchief style bottom of this dress.  It makes it flow so pretty when you walk.

THREADS // THE BELLY

via rootsandfeathers.com

It's been such a wild journey to see my body change through pregnancy.  It's a bit of an emotional roller coaster.  One day I feel prettier than I ever have before, and the next I feel huge and frumpy.  Dressing my body has been more of a challenge, and I'm really learning what feels good and what simply doesn't even if I wish it did.  But I know this is just a transitional time, and one that is bringing the biggest miracle through it all.  It's truly amazing actually to watch my belly grow, and to see my little girl move around underneath my skin.  I'm still amazed every time she kicks or flips.  Last night we put a book on my belly to watch it bounce as she moved around.  Such a cool experience.  It looked like it was in an ocean wave or something.  I feel her more and more everyday, and it's a beautiful reminder that I am not alone.  She is already my little companion every single day.

Now that I am seeing just how quickly this time in my life is passing by I'm really trying to document my belly more before it's gone.  From here on out I'm going to try to do weekly shoots if I can, or at least as many as I can.  I have just a few images of my mom when she was pregnant, and actually most of them are when she was pregnant with my brother.  I wish I had more.  I know one day Ava will love these.  Especially if she ends up being a little Cancer like me, she will most likely be a nostalgic soul.

THREADS // 27 WEEKS

via rootsandfeathers.com

I'm technically already just past 28 weeks, but these photos were shot around 27 weeks.  We had a sweet little date with our neighbors at our local wine bar.  We are so blessed to have such nice peeps living next to us!  I can't remember where I got this top, but I'm loving it more now that I'm pregnant... and I've had this skirt for ages.  It's been fun to dig through my closet and see what I can wear through this pregnancy.  I am about to go buy another pair of maternity jeans though for my last 3 months b/c I just can't wear my other pair I bought b/c the low band puts too much pressure on my bladder when I sit down.  They fit everywhere else.  But I love my jeans, so I'm going to indulge in one more pair.

Now that I am in the home stretch my body is definitely changing rapidly.  Ive got aches and pains popping up & some super moody blues... But every day is different, so I'm just savoring the good ones, and resting and going with the flow on the bad ones.  Accepting it all as part of the journey.  It's so wild thinking about how different life is going to be in 3 short months!
